Our Story

Our God is Faithful

From the beginning

The founding of Hope International Ministries (HIM) on March 3, 2002 was the realization of a dream conceived in 1982 when Dr. Trevor Grizzle the lead Pastor and Founder, came to Tulsa to teach at Oral Roberts University. A sense of urgency begun in October 2001, quickened and intensified in December, signaling that the hour of “blast off” was near. After much prayer, my wife Maureen and I began to share our vision with certain people God had laid on our hearts, some of whom remain a vital part of the ministry today. Preliminary meetings which began in December for planning, prayer, and worship, and continued into February, culminated in our first formal worship service convened at Woodland Hills Four Square Assembly of God on February 16, 2002.

Hope started with a modest attendance of 15, made up of Kenyans, Americans, Jamaicans, Ghanaians, and Britons, reflecting the international vision and orientation of the church: a family where different cultures, nationalities, and languages blend together in unfettered worship of our Lord. Inauguration Hope International was organized and officially inaugurated at 5:00 p.m. on March 3, 2002. Driven by a need to have Sunday morning service, we moved to Holland Hall All Saints Chapel after one year at Woodland Hills Four Square. A new phase in the history of Hope began on November 3, 2002 when we moved to 6744 S. Lewis Ave., Tulsa.

With unrestricted access to the building and strategically located, we experienced steady growth. Our present location at 7030E S. Lewis for over five years has provided us more spacious facilities and parking to facilitate growth. On July 18 2004, HIM, a classical Pentecostal church, was officially welcomed into the Church of God (headquarters Cleveland, Tennessee) by the Administrative Bishop of Oklahoma. Although internationals are our primary target group, we welcome Americans who are finding Hope to be an exciting place to worship and call home. Part of our uniqueness is the parade of flags representing the countries of our members and our rich diversity of musical styles and languages blended in worship.
